100 years of Hartkorn – and it will go on for a long time!

We are very proud that we have been able to establish ourselves as a family business for such a long time in the market. We are able to do this because we have combined the company philosophy “endurance brings duration” of Josef Hartkorn, the founder of “Josef Hartkorn & Sohn” with the mission “To be different from the others”. A tireless will of the four generations Hartkorn, highest quality of the products and a committed team let us now celebrate 100 years of existence.

Endurance brings duration

Now the part of the story that most confirms the company philosophy of Josef Hartkorn “endurance brings duration” is probably the most important. The 2nd world war. Short and simple – many employees are drafted into military service, trucks and cars are confiscated and devastating bomb attacks from Koblenz put the company to a hard test. But you can guess – we have survived. In 1967 Hans-Dieter Hartkorn, the third generation, takes over the company and brings a breath of fresh air into it. Together with his mother he separates from the products pudding powder and Co. and concentrates on the core competence – spices – which has remained until today.
Hans-Dieter Hartkorn married Ingrid in 1970, who has remained the good spice soul of the company to this day.

And as mentioned, the Hartkorn company is not only a specialist in herbs and spices, but is constantly improving and inventing new packaging to preserve the aroma of spices for a long time. You can learn more about the aluminium aroma safe in our Scharfmacher Blog.

Back to current events – the fourth generation of the owner-managed company, Dr. rer. nat. Andreas Hartkorn and his wife Simone Hartkorn, complete the team of the Koblenz Scharfmacher, which will move to Mülheim-Kärlich in 2018 due to its steady growth and limited space.
